Crete
Crete is the southernmost island in Greece with a climate said to be one of the best in Europe and is deservedly ranked highly in any list of holiday destinations. The island offers a diversity of natural features from dramatic mountain ranges to long sandy beaches some are developed while others are in quiet hidden away coves. Our villa holidays in Crete really do offer something for everyone.
Moving inland to the mountain plateaus one finds an abundance of wildlife, plants and flowers that are unique to the island. The mountains are scattered with ancient mountain villages following the traditional island life, there are also fascinating archaeological sites scattered across the island and dating back to the Minoan period. Hire a car and explore this fascinating hinterland from your own holiday villa in Crete.
You are sure to receive a warm welcome on your holidays in Crete. Crete has a people and culture noted for hospitality and tradition of welcoming visitors and this is still true today as European culture blends with the Cretan traditions and customs in music, art, crafts and food.
Watersports
Boat hire and yacht sailing are widely available in Crete for a range of alternatives at a range of prices. Yachts can be chartered by the day and Perfect Blue can provide you with a full list of recommended operators. Alternatively, catamaran sailing is very popular for the half or full day, with no experience required as you can also receive expert tuition to get you going.
Waterskiing is available at most of the bigger resorts in Crete, but can be a little expensive. However, no experience is required and it is great fun as a holiday treat.
Windsurfing boards can be hired in Crete very easily and the best beaches are Malia, Georgioupoli, Plakias and Chersonisos.
The clear, blue seas around Crete are ideal for scuba diving and there are several wrecks from World War II to explore. There are also several schools that will teach you at any level from novice to expert.
For the less serious, Banana Rides (pulled behind a speedboat on an inflatable banana) and Sea Biscuit Rides (roughly the same but on an individual inflatable ring) are very popular and guaranteed to make you laugh!
For those looking for some family fun, why not head to the Aquapark at Chersonisos, which we can highly recommend.
