Island

Why Holiday in Paxos?

Paxos is a tiny gem that lies in the Ionian Sea just an hour's hydrofoil trip from its larger neighbour Corfu. With no direct flights, this island of pretty harbours and undiscovered coves is delightfully laid-back and off-the-beaten-track.

Gaios is the island town, main harbour and centre of island life. Harbour-side tavernas greet arriving visitors but are well worth a return visit during your stay. Loggos is a pretty village harbour just a 10 minute taxi ride from Gaios and home to several of our Paxos villas and apartments. Perhaps the best way to explore this island is by small boat - simply potter along the shoreline to find your own idyllic cove.

The Insider

A walker's paradise

Paxos is a tiny gem in the Ionian with a relaxed, unhurried pace and genuinely friendly atmosphere. This remarkably verdant island is barely 12km by 4km, putting everything within easy striking distance. Indeed, its diminutive size and abundant flora and fauna make Paxos holidays a real walker's paradise.

The lack of an airport on Paxos has had the undoubted benefit of protecting Paxos holidays from the usual strains of tourism. This factor, combined with the many delightful coves dotted along the coastline that can only be reached by foot or boat, attracts a flotilla of boats and yachts to the island's shores each year.

Even if you are a landlubber, hiring a boat is a splendid way to explore the turquoise bays and sleepy harbours with their surprisingly sophisticated shops and tavernas. And, if you find yourself on the beach at Lakka, you'll soon see why it is considered to be one of Europe's top twenty beaches*.

Recommended walk by a Perfect Blue Customer

"For a pleasant walk, park the car (if you have one) at the causeway across to Mogonissi and follow the waterside path across the peninsula to the South Western side of the island. You can walk for as long or as short a time as you like up around the rocks, look across to Anti Paxos and enjoy the sea breeze." Aug 2009

Our Perfect Blue Representative on Paxos gives her views on this undiscovered island ?

Beautiful beaches, clear crystal waters and amazing sunsets are just some of the things that attracted me to Paxos. Having holidayed here for many years my fiance and I decided to make the move to this beautiful island. The people are warm and genuinely friendly and although the smallest of the Ionian there is always plenty to do, whether you enjoy walking and taking in the amazing views and array of fauna, visiting the olive press museum or one of the 63 churches on the island, taking in a cooking demonstration or simply hiring a boat and exploring the many coves and beaches for yourself you will find that a couple of weeks is never enough and I'm sure once Paxos has worked its magic you will find yourself returning the following year.

Some more tips from Perfect Blue Customers

1. The Sunset Taverna at Emitris is outstanding for its views of...you got it - sunsets! You need to book early as it gets extremely busy and good tables are booked in advance.

2. Tavernas at Mogonissi Beach and Mambos on the quayside at Gaios we have found to be a cut above the rest.

3. Lakka is a great little port to visit, but like Anti Paxos is a honey pot for ferries offloading their eager day trip passengers from Corfu. It is therefore advisable to get there before 10:30am to see these places at their quieter best.
