Those heading on a Greek island holiday over the next few months may be wise to ensure that sample some of the local delicacies on offer in Greek restaurants and cafes.

Lynne Evans, writing for Suite101, admits while some holidaymakers on their first visit to Greece may be a little confused when confronted with a typical menu, it is well worth giving local food a try.

She suggests souvlaki is a must for all tourists on holiday in Greece, she describes the meat, pitta bread, salad and tzatziki combination as good value for your euro, but advises venturing into a traditional taverna can be a great way to taste real Greek souvlaki.

Fish and seafood are also not to be missed, as according to Ms Evans, they are very fresh and will usually be on a plate the same day they are caught.

Similarly, in a recent article for BalkanInsight, Dusica Ikic-Cook advised those heading to the Greek islands on holiday wont fail to be attracted to the areas historical sites, fine beaches and excellent local produce.
