'Try Domaine Sigalas' wine on Greek holidays

Wine enthusiasts may find their tastes well catered for by booking a holiday in Santorini, an island in Greece.

This drink has been described by Kim Marcus of Wine Spectator as "delicious", coming from the Assyrtiko grape and being produced by Domaine Sigalas.

He said: "This is one of my favourite whites from Greece," noting that it - much like its Italian counterpart the Ribolla - is "rich and viscous, yet fresh and fruity".

Of the Ribolla - which is known as Robola in Cephalonia - Mr Marcus stated that the latter island is where he first encountered this wine, although it is an Italian grape that is generally grown in the Collio province in the north of Italy.

His comments come after Daily Mail writer Olly Smith recommended Santorini's local tipples to those on holidays in Greece .

He observed that the region's vineyards are placed on volcanic soil, which creates "intensely flavoured wines with striking personality".
