Crete is a 'real' destination

A holiday to Crete offers travellers a chance to experience the genuine side of the Greek islands.
This is the opinion of Washington Post staff writer Jane Black, who took a trip to the destination recently and said rather than provide picture-perfect scenes of village life, it was more "real".
She spent three days in Falassarna, which is sleepy yet functional.
"We spent most of our days lying on the beach. The approach is not encouraging - a quarter-mile path down a scrubby hill - but the reward is a stretch of soft white sand," Ms Black explained.
However, the best of Crete can be found in surprising places, she added, saying that fresh and delicious food on a ferry to Balos Beach provided a gorgeous equivalent to what would probably be unappealing fast-food on an American version, while a small taverna on the hill above Falassarna that did not look like anything special turned out to be cheap and mouth-wateringly good.
Her comments echo a recent article in the Daily Mirror, which described the island as a "playground" full of various activities.
