Holidays in Corfu 'are safe'

Holidays in Corfu offer families a feeling of safety amid the tranquil charm and beauty, according to one writer.

Sarah Sands described in an article for the London Evening Standard how the resort of San Stefanos (also known as Agios Stephanos or St Stephanos) on the island offers travellers a relaxing break.

She recounted the seemingly safe surroundings and lack of crime, which provides adults with the chance to let older children explore the area unaccompanied.

Other attractions include delightful tavernas and fashionable bars dotted around the harbour front, Ms Sands noted.

Describing her impressions of the island, she said: "This is a dazzling coastline. The green of the Corfu hills set against the cobalt blue sky and navy sea lifts the spirits."

People looking for a daytrip were advised to take a boat to the Kassiopi, which is a little livelier than peaceful San Stefanos.

The Greek Reporter recently told of how music icon Madonna had been spotted enjoying a vacation on the country's islands.
