Kefalonia is an "idyllic" place for a Greek island holiday , according to one writer.
In an article for Helium, Stella Kaye described how the isle offers "picturesque fishing villages" and beautiful mountainous scenery.
She noted that car hire is the best way to explore what Kefalonia has to offer, including its ancient ruins.
Explaining the Port of Poros, the writer said: "The area is renowned for its archaeological finds and the visitor is able to see the remains of a Roman villa and a Temple of Apollo, the sun god."
Compared to some of the larger Greek islands, Ms Kaye stated that the resorts are smaller and quieter.
However, she noted that like many places in the country, the pace of life "seems to run in slow motion" and relaxing is easy to do.
Kefalonia is the largest of the Ionian Islands and its neighbour Zante can be viewed from its hillsides.
