Corfu 'highlight of Europe tour'

An Australian columnist has told how a visit to the Greek island of Corfu turned out to be the highlight of his tour of Europe.
Shaney Hudson wrote in the Brisbane Times that the best part of his trip was "sailing in the Greek islands".
"For three days we bobbed around in the Ionian Sea near Corfu ... I returned to port feeling like a satisfied old sea dog," he commented.
It was also the rich local life that gave the journalist the best memories as he was able to witness a feast in honour of the port's patron saint.
"A procession looped past our boats, fireworks exploded and a frightfully out-of-tune singer entertained 400 locals beside the village church," Mr Hudson added.
Corfu is one of the Greek islands that is known still today for its "filoxenia" - or the custom of showing friendliness towards strangers - so visitors with a taste for local colour may find this enhances their experience.
