Corfu is 'popular with the rich and famous'

Corfu offers charming features that draw many celebrities and VIP travellers to its shores, according to one expert.

Dimitris Haritos, who presides over the local travel agent on the island, told Athens News Agency how beautiful villas make the area a "magnets for celebrity".

He described how the northern tip of the island was "justifiably called the 'Monaco of Greece'".

Screen legends such as Tom Hanks, Julia Roberts and Jack Nicholson are among some of the famous names who have holidayed in Greece over the years.

Meanwhile Prince Charles and Diana have stayed at the famous Rothschild mansion, which features among many other attractive properties on the expanse from Agios Stephanos to Kassiopi, the publication noted.

Talking of the country, the news source said: "It is a paradise of plentiful sunshine and endless blue, a part of which the famous around the world wish to secure for themselves."

One celebrity who has recently told of her love of Greece is Jennifer Aniston, who explained how childhood holidays in the country inspired her new fragrance.
