Greece has launched an online tourism campaign in a bid to attract holidaymakers to the country in 2010, it has been reported.
The initiative will re-use old footage and focus on an internet platform, with the campaign motto being 'Kalimera' – meaning good morning in Greek, traveldailynews.com reports.
According to estimates by the World Travel and Tourism Council, tourism accounts for around 16 per cent of Greece's gross domestic product and about one in five jobs.
Angela Gerekou, deputy culture and tourism minister, told the news provider that up to 90 per cent of tourists make their plans on the internet, which is almost "unknown territory" for Greece.
A new web-based portal is set to open with a team delegated to updating and maintaining the site on a daily basis, added Gerekou.
Meanwhile, a holiday in Greece has ranked among the top choices for those planning a holiday in the European Union (EU) in 2010, it has been reported.
The latest Eurobarometer Poll states that 3.9 per cent of respondents are planning their main holiday in Greece, behind Spain, Italy, France and the United States.
