Hollywood comes to Greece

Following the success of the international block buster "Mamma Mia", starring Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan, filmed on Skopelos and Skiathos, we wondered how many other wonderful Greek locations had been used as cinematic backdrops and which Hollywood actors had graced their shores.

The classic and romantic journey with "Shirley Valentine" starring Pauline Collins and Tom Conti, took place on Mykonos way back in 1989. A holiday in Greece that became a life changing experience for one bored housewife.

Our favourite, "Captain Corelli's Mandolin" a touching tribute to an Italian officers life during the second world war, brought Kefalonia to the forefront in 2000. Nicholas Cage starred as the admirable soldier on an epic and heartfelt mission.

Perhaps the biggest blockbuster was the James Bond "For Your Eyes Only" starring Roger Moore, back in 1981. Many scenes were filmed in and around Corfu Town including Pontikonisi Island.

Just one of many reasons to visit the gorgeous Greek islands and have your own blockbuster of a holiday.
