'Book accommodation in advance' ahead of Greek festival

People going on holiday in Greece during the celebrations of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary have been advised to book accommodation in advance.
Writing for Suite 101, Lynne Evans told travellers that the country's islands can get extremely busy around the August 15th date as many Greek locals enjoy the national holiday.
"In August, most people have a holiday and Athens becomes a ghost town as Athenians go back to the villages where they or their parents were born," she stated.
However, those who are holiday in the Greek islands throughout the festival period will have the chance to experience one of the Orthodox church's biggest celebrations.
Plenty of feasting occurs as people fast in the two weeks prior to the party as a mark of respect for the Virgin Mary, who is believed to have fallen asleep rather than died.
Other countries such as Italy, France, Chile and Spain also recognise the date with a national holiday.
