People flying to Athens before departing on a Greek holiday may want to check out the festival and celebrations that are planned to commemorate the anniversary of the Battle of Marathon.
On September 12th, festivities will be held across Attica in remembrance of the event, which took place 2,500 years ago, Athens News Agency reports.
A number of famous actors from the country are believed to be taking part in a reading of the battle during a walk that will lead individuals to the Marathon Tomb.
Maria Polyzou, who recently completed the legendary 520-kilometre run from Athens to Sparta in six days, will be in attendance at the celebrations.
The public will be able to take guided walks around the area to view historic ruins connected to the battle.
Across the globe, numerous countries are holding marathon events to celebrate the 2,500th anniversary of the event, which inspired modern-day 26 mile sporting runs.
