Holidays in Athens increase in popularity

More people are considering embarking on a holiday in Athens this summer, according to a new report.
Independent flight website Skyscanner has revealed the top 50 searched-for destinations from the UK during the month of February.
The Greek city of Athens was among the few select places that saw an increase in popularity, rising by nine points. Athens is a great location for a city break and can also be the gateway for holidays in Andros , Kea, Milos or the Cycladic islands, such as Santorini.
Other Greek destinations also fared well on the list, with the Cyprus city of Paphos reaching 15th place, and Larnaca was sitting in 23rd spot.
Meanwhile, a new survey by Lloyds TSB found that 60 per cent of Britons plan to head overseas for their main holiday this year, with more than 60 per cent choosing to holiday in European destinations such as Greece.
Some 45 per cent were planning to embark on a sun and beach holiday break, and a third of the 2,000 respondents said their holiday was already booked.
