Mamma Mia inspires holidays in Greece

The hit film Mamma Mia is inspiring many people to take a holiday in Greece, and Skopelos where it was set, it has been reported.
According to travelsupermarket.com, film locations make inspiring holiday destinations for nearly one in five Brits, with thirty per cent of those under 20-years-old more likely to visit a place after seeing it on the big screen.
Mamma Mia, which was filmed in the Greek islands of Skopelos and Skiathos, is one movie that has reportedly driven more people to the area.
The website's travel expert Bob Atkinson said it was "hardly surprising" that travellers are taking their inspiration from films.
"From bored housewife Shirley Valentine 'discovering herself' on a Greek Island or gorgeous period dramas with the backdrop of some of the UK's most stunning stately homes, to fun and frolics in hits such as Mamma Mia! … when a destination gets picked to feature in a film the tourism office there should really capitalise on it."
Writing in the Telegraph, travel writer Paul Mansfield reports that despite Mamma Mia introducing the tiny island of Skopelos to the world, it still remains a down-to-earth and laidback destination.
This is partly due to location, claims Mansfield, as the island has no airport and is only accessible by ferry from neighbouring Skiathos - adding to the element of seclusion.
