Mykonos 'best European island destination'

The Greek island holiday destination of Mykonos has been voted the best place to go for a European getaway in a magazine poll.
In a Readers' Choice awards ceremony sponsored by Conde Nast Travel magazine, the location came out ahead of all the others.
The publication cited the "white sugar-cube villages, blue-domed churches ... turquoise Aegean and talcum-powder beaches" as the elements that guaranteed the island's success.
Conde Nast Travel commented September and October could be ideal times to go.
"The crowds drop off considerably, but there's still plenty of warmth and sunshine," it explained.
Key tourist features in Mykonos include Little Venice, a waterfront neighbourhood full of narrow, cobblestone streets and alabaster-like walls covered in colourful bougainvillea.
This area is reckoned by some to be among the most photographed spots on the globe.
Little Venice's windmills have also captured the world's imagination and visitors have the option of eating at one of the restaurants overlooking this classic sight.
