Those looking to combine the sun and sand of a Greek island holiday in Alonissos with zoological interest may enjoy visiting the National Marine Park - home to one of the rarest animals in Europe.
Set up in response to a 1975 documentary by Kurt Lorenz entitled The Coast of the Seal that revealed the plight of the endangered monk seal, the resort is now home to many different species of mammals, birds, fish and reptiles.
It was established with the aim of conserving the marine life of the Greek seas and encompasses Alonissos as well as nearby smaller islands.
Situated on the northern tip of the island, the park is intended to be facilitated with a public information hub. Until then, visitors may enjoy witnessing dolphins jumping and animals interacting freely in a protected environment.
Those who enjoy diving could also appreciate the diverse marine life in this area.
