People on holiday in Cyprus have a chance to visit a castle rumoured to be straight out of a fairytale.
The Daily Mail reports on the rumour that St Hilarion Castle in Northern Cyprus is the inspiration for Disney's Sleeping Beauty classic, featuring a "jumble of defensive walls and towers".
Writer Rose McCauley is known for her much-quoted description of the ancient masterpiece, stating it appears to be "a picture-book castle for elf-kings".
The island also boasts some of the best Crusader castles in the Mediterranean, the news provider adds.
"Perhaps the finest of all is Kantara Castle, in the neck of that distinctive narrow finger of land, the Karpas peninsula," it states.
People who endure the steep 3,084 foot climb up to Buffavento Castle will be rewarded with a spectacular view.
The St Hilarion castle in the Kyrenia mountain range is said to be named after a hermit monk who fled from persecution in Palestine and later lived and died in a cave in the mountain.
In the 10th century the Byzantines built a church and monastery, joined by a fort in the 12th century.
