Take a coastal drive, visit historical ruins or even go caving during holidays in Crete - the island offers a myriad of attractions for all travellers.
Writing for cheapflights.co.uk, Jemima Garthwaite has rated her top five things to do while staying on the Greek island.
Taking a tour through the caves was among the top recommendations.
"Many of Crete's splendid caves are archaeological sites littered with fossils and home to amazing rock formations," she said.
"A fear of the dark may put off some children, but a guided tour should be able to accommodate all abilities and tastes."
Taking a drive along the coast to escape the bustling city may also appeal, while the shallow waters at Makrigialos beach on the southeast coast of the island are ideal for paddling with young children, claimed Ms Garthwaite.
People on holiday in Crete in July may also wish to take in the Rethymno wine festival, where traditional Cretan and Greek folklore music is on display along with wine tastings.
