People spoilt for choice during holidays in Athens

Beautiful beaches, countryside and mouth-watering cuisine are all on offer during holidays in Athens , it has been claimed.

Travel writer Alex Ion writes in a Hotelclub.com blog that the ancient Greek city is perfect for those looking for a holiday like no other.

"Ah, Greece. Mediterranean beaches, rolling green hills, excellent cuisine, relaxed people. Could there be a better holiday spot?" he said.

"Be sure to visit the islands and look at ancient ruins, surrounded by wildflowers and warm sea breeze, and keep your radar on for folk singing, dancing, and musical performances."

No trip to Athens would be complete without taking in the monumental Acropolis, what one traveller has described as an "awesome sight".

Sandra Howard writes in the Daily Mail of her encounter with the masterpiece, which appeared to be almost "suspended between Heaven and Earth".

City breaks to Athens can easily be combined with beach breaks on the nearby islands, making holidays in Milos , Kea or Andros viable options for two centre holidays.
