Things to do in Corfu: visit the island's 'hidden jewel'

People on holiday in Corfu have been advised to visit the island's "hidden jewel", the town of Kassiopi.

Writing for tripadvisor.com, traveller EmmaBManchester states that the northern town boasts pebble beaches, traditional Greek tavernas and beautiful views.

"Kassiopi is a hidden jewel nestling in the base of a forested mountain backdrop, a laid back safe and beautiful area to stay in," she writes.

"The sea is a beautiful crystal clear mixture of jade and turquoise which … gently laps against the shelving sun bleached pebble beaches."

For those who prefer sand beneath their toes, Kalamaki beach is just around the corner, where the shallow water is perfect for younger children.

Sitting in Limones Bar on the waterfront during the evening provides the perfect place to watch the cruise liners sail past Albania and the local boats roll in with "the sun setting over the mountaintop behind you", said EmmaBManchester.

Holiday makers may also wish to take a day trip to neighbouring Albania during their time in Corfu, with many boat charters offering daily excursions.
