If you're looking for a great Italian festival that you can combine with your holiday in Tuscany , it's recommended that you consider the Viareggio Carnival in Viareggio, which lasts for nearly 3 weeks in February 2012. Well-known for the parade of floats and masks, usually made of paper-pulp that depict caricatures of politicians, showmen and sportsmen.

Dating from 1873, the masks are a sign of protest against the locals refusal to pay high taxes, a tradition that continues to this day. It is simply one of the biggest and most spectacular festivals in Europe.
