Sun-worshippers on holidays in Cyprus should head to what is regarded as the island's most famous beach, Phinikoudes.
The name is derived from the number of palm trees, planted in 1922, that grow along the 500 metre long beach, according to the Cyprus Tourism Organisation.
"The main road, Athenon Avenue, is planted with palm trees, green areas and colourful flowers that add to the magnificent scenery," it adds.
Lying on the beach and swimming in the hot Greek sun is thirsty work, so the numerous cafes, bars and restaurants along the coastal promenade provide the perfect spot to start the evening.
The area is also the venue for the two-week Larnaca Kataklysmos Fair in June.
Travellers may also wish to make a visit to the Ammochostos region, which is famed for its fine white sand beaches and sleepy fishing villages.
