People on holidays in Corfu may wish to further broaden their horizons by venturing on a day trip to neighbouring Albania.
Writing for the Los Angeles Times, Barry Zwick reports that people can book a daily excursion from Corfu to Albania's Sarande, regarded as the "Albanian Riveria".
His own experience of the trip, taken while spending four days in Corfu, was one which provided a laid-back visit to a "more off-the-beaten-track destination", said Zwick.
The travel writer recalls visiting the acropolis, which "scenically" was the highlight of the trip and well worth the climb.
"We climbed 200 steps to the acropolis, with a commanding view of Lake Butrint, a teal blue, brackish lagoon where most of Albania's mussels are harvested," he said.
"We walked downhill to a massive souvenir marketplace, where our party grabbed bottled water, sodas, fruit juice, trivets, trinkets, refrigerator magnets and glossy coffee table books, euros gleefully accepted."
Holidaymakers in Corfu may also wish to spend time at the local waterpark, which boasts multiple slides and activities suitable for all ages.
