Paros can offer a unique holiday experience away from the crowds.

The absence of an airport has meant that Paros is a Greek island with the infrastructure for tourism but not the crowds - good news for those looking to enjoy what the island has to offer.

Sight-see: Famous for its houses resembling sugar cubes that pepper the hillsides and coastlines, Paros is a picturesque island and harbours such as Naoussa capture many of its charms in a single picture frame.

Take in art: Paros is known for its translucent marble, which was used to make the Venus de Milo and its museums house classic Greek artefacts.

Go to the beaches: Beaches in Paros are said to be very clean, with clear, warm waters. Beaches outside of the main town of Paroikia are said to be the best.

Alternative activities: In addition to scuba diving, the artist population of Paros has made it so courses on dancing, painting, yoga and Tao are available on the island.

Eat and drink: Paros cuisine has variations on classic Greek favourites using local products as well as seafood. One speciality is a grilled mackerel dish called Gouna. Paros also makes its own wines, which have garnered popularity abroad.

Paros also has direct ferry connections to Crete, with routes to Paxos, Lefkada (Lefkas) and Mykonos with a stopover in Santorini.
