Crete is an 'authentic' Greek Island

Travellers planning holidays in Greece might like to consider booking flights to Crete, as it has been described as the "ideal Greek destination spot".

According to Markos Papadatos of the Hellenic News of America, this - the fifth-largest island to be found in the Mediterranean - is "one of the most authentic" of the isles.

It could prove to be a great place to stay for more adventurous people as, Mr Papadatos observed, the south of the region is mountainous, boasting many caves that are closely associated with mythology.

He referred to two of these - the Dictean and the Idaian, the latter supposedly being the birthplace of Zeus.

"Crete is not as integrated as the other islands of Greece. It has its own culture featuring distinct music characterized by folk songs and mantinades," Mr Papadatos went on.

Couples celebrating their wedding anniversaries might also enjoy time on the island, as Rusha Haljuci of the New York Times recently noted that it is a private place that comes with pristine beaches and ancient sanctuaries.
