Holidays in Crete ideal for wedding anniversary

Holidays in Crete offer those celebrating their wedding anniversary a "peaceful and primitive" destination that is not overrun by tourists, it has been suggested.
Writing in a travel blog for the New York Times, Rusha Haljuci states that the island offers a glimpse into the life of traditional Greece, while also allowing couples to enjoy pristine beaches, mountain villages and ancient sanctuaries.
"Hike along gorges to the mountain village of Pefki to hear local musicians play in tavernas or enjoy local food and drink in cafes," she writes.
"Drive northeast, toward the eastern tip of the island, and pass ancient sanctuaries, a stunning coastline and Moni Toplou, a strikingly situated monastery."
Couples also have the chance to sample the local cuisine, touted as a key factor in promoting longevity.
According to the Telegraph-Journal, Greece is home to some of the world's top anti-ageing foods, particularly its vast array of fresh produce and, of course, olive oil.
