Marialena Villas, situated on the edge of the small traditional Cretan village of Megala Horafia in the Apokoronos region of Western Crete, offer the perfect place to stay.
Set amongst lush colourful gardens on the edge of this picturesque village of old stone houses and silvery olive groves and positioned against a dramatic backdrop of the stunning White Mountains which form the dominant feature of this lovely area.
Manolis and Sophia, the welcoming owners, have put loving care and attention into the building and furnishing of these very comfortable houses which are detached so as to ensure privacy and tranquility.
Set amongst the lush gardens, just five 1-bed villas and four 2-bed villas share the two sparkling swimming pools. If you feel like venturing further, the ancient city of Aptera is a 5 minute drive and the long sandy beach of Kalives, one of many picturesque coastal resorts situated close by, is a fifteen minute drive. In the village, within a couple of minutes walk, there are two tavernas and a mini market.
The one bedroomed houses are situated around a swimming pool and stand in there own gardens. Each house has a private covered patio and a spacious sitting room with an open fireplace, a pull out divan and a telephone. The dining area is spacious and the well-fitted kitchenette has a hob with small oven, toaster and coffee machine.
The bedroom has either a double bed or two singles. Adjacent is the shower room. Air-conditioning is fitted in the bedroom. For comfort and for larger parties there is both a sofa and a divan in each of the sitting rooms so up to three people can be accommodated.
Chania is a city of unique beauty, the old town built around the Venetian harbour is a labyrinth of ancient houses where you can wander around with only the occasional reminder of modern life. This image of the town has remained unspoiled throughout the year.
The picturesque narrow streets have architecture of Roman and Turkish design revealling the influence of decades of foreign domination. The Venetian Harbour and old port, with its waterfront tavernas clustered close to the harbour is a wonderful place to relax and watch the passing parade and an evening spent sampling one of the many fine restaurants is an excellent way to round of a perfect day.

Chania Airport (Crete) - there are flights departing from Birmingham, Gatwick, Manchester and Newcastle on Tuesdays.
Daily flights to Crete are available from Athens Airport.

The palace of Knossos is a must see attraction of Crete, unfortunately in high season it can also be hot and crowded. So be sure to take a bottle of water in with you. The informative signs are good, however an informative guide really can make the resort come alive.
Samaria Gorge is one of the Natioanl Parks of Greece and the only one in Crete. It starts at an altitude of 1227m at Xyloskalo near the village of Omalos (70km from Chania) and ends afer an 18km walk to the beach at the village of Agia Roumeli on the south coast of Crete.
