Villa Atlas is a unique property in its design, offering good sized living space for larger groups or families. Having been recently renovated by the owner it originally belonged to his grandfather and dates back 100 years, the house retains many of its original features, whilst interior design is most definitely influenced by modern day comforts.
The villa is located in the centre of the old village of Plaka, near to the beach resort of Almyrida and is but a few minutes walk from the centre of the village where you will find tavernas and cafeterias along with a local mini market.
Entrance to the villa is through the enclosed courtyard where you will find plenty of space for lounging around the 6.5 metre swimming pool which has a depth throughout of 1.4 metres and is situated just in front of the villa.
Each bedroom is like a private suite with sleeping area, living area and en-suite facilities. All rooms have direct access to the communal living area consisting of a fully fitted kitchen and dining area. There is also a large outside dining table and seating from which to enjoy al fresco meals on those warm summer nights.
Traditional double doors take you in to the light and airy dining and kitchen area where you will find a fully fitted kitchen complete with dishwasher, microwave and washing machine and a large dining table and chairs. There is also a cloakroom for communal use. The bedrooms are all accessed from this area. The master bedroom, which has a double bed and en-suite shower room, has its own 'living area' separated by an archway. There is a doorway that gives access to a peaceful internal courtyard with seating (great for whiling away the hours with a good book) and stairs giving access to the smallest of the two roof terraces. The second bedroom is also on the ground floor and features traditional twin beds, curtained for privacy. The en-suite bathroom features whirlpool bath and wooden staircase to the larger roof terrace. This room is large and houses two sofas, satellite TV (limited channels) and DVD player.
The third bedroom is upstairs, accessed by a staircase from the dining room and features a living area at the top of the staircase with a separate double bedroom with superb four poster bed and en-suite shower room. There is also access here to the larger roof terrace which offers sea views and is the perfect place to relax in the wooden hammock or enjoy an early evening drink whilst watching the sun set over Souda Bay.
An added advantage at this villa is that the owner has a superb taverna a couple of minutes walk away and if you are enjoying relaxing at the villa and don't want to leave, delivery of Cretan cuisine to the villa can be arranged.
This villa normally sleeps 6 persons but there are sofa beds in 2 of the bedroom suites, giving sleeping for an additional 2 persons. Whilst the bedrooms have the facility of being air-conditioned, if you want to use this facility, there is a small charge payable locally of 12 Euros per day to include the use of all units.

Chania Airport (Crete) - there are flights departing from Birmingham, Gatwick, Manchester and Newcastle on Tuesdays.
Daily flights to Crete are available from Athens Airport.

The palace of Knossos is a must see attraction of Crete, unfortunately in high season it can also be hot and crowded. So be sure to take a bottle of water in with you. The informative signs are good, however an informative guide really can make the resort come alive.
