Korissia's sandy beach and main harbour area are within easy walking distance of Porta Kea Suites. The excellent facilities and services offered include the large swimming pool and breakfast at no extra charge.

Porta Kea Suites is a collection of 34 suites located on two floors. The owners, George and Roula, have utilised traditional materials and designs to ensure that the Cycladic influences historic to Kea are retained - the design of the hotel contributes to the beauty of the landscape around it.

The spacious suites each have a separate area for relaxing and even a small kitchenette and dining suite. The large bathrooms are beautifully finished with marble and have modern fixtures and fittings. They are air-conditioned, lovingly decorated and have terraces - so you can dine al fresco without leaving the comfort of your room.

Location

Korissia, Kea

On the western side of the island is Agios Nikolas Bay, and deep within it lies the port of Korissia or 'Livadi' - considered to be one of the safest natural harbours in the Mediterranean.

Korissia is the port of Kea, where mainland ferries arrive and depart. Even if you're not staying here, it's the first place you'll encounter when you reach the island and is well worth a stop off. With its blue domed church sitting opposite its old lighthouse, this is a delightful little harbour where a jumble of traditional houses tumble down from the surrounding hillsides to a waterfront lined with cafes, tavernas and shops.

Korrisia makes a great base from which to explore the island as it is within easy reach of the capital town of Ioullis and the rest of Kea. However, if you are not inclined to stray too far, this lovely port also has a long, sandy and uncrowded beach that stretches as far as the headland and the charming chapel of Agios Georgos - the perfect spot to while away your days before meandering back to spend a pleasurable evening at the waterfront.

How To Get There

There is something reallly special about arriving on a Greek island by boat and this particularly applies to the island of Kea. The ferry only takes an hour and departs from the port of Lavrio on the mainland, which is an easy forty minute drive down the main highway from Athens airport.

There are plenty of direct flights to Athens from the UK and it is approximately a 3 hour journey. You can fly direct from Gatwick, Glasgow, Heathrow, Luton and Manchester. Carriers include:

Customer Reviews

Feedback on Porta Kea Suites ...

We wanted a quiet break with a pool - a chance to unwind. Porta Kea Suites fitted the bill perfectly. (June 2009)
Your recommended hotel in Athens was great, it was central, easy to find, clean and reasonably priced - but best of all had a roof terrace with absolutely fantastic views of the acropolis. We would definitely stay there again and recommend it. The property in Kea was good - we were the only guests for a few days and so had the run of the place. The rooms were large and decor nice. Staff were friendly and helpful. (October 2007)
Property was excellent. The staff were friendly attentive and the apartment was clean and well maintained. (August 2007)

Korissia, Kea ...

We were just a short walk from Korissa and during the week the area was deserted - which was great. It was much more lively at the weekends with visitors from the mainland. (June 2009)
Kea is very quiet and relaxing, the scenery is dramatic rather than pretty. (October 2007)
Very nice. Korissia was quiet but had just the right choice of things to do with a good range of bars, restaurants etc. (August 2007)

Hints, Tips and Local Information

Hire a car for a couple of days to see the rest of the island. (June 2009)
Expect a quiet relaxing holiday and to get away from mainstream tourism. Kea is very easy to get to from Athens airport - you could do this for a long weekend. (October 2007)
Drinks can be a bit pricey in some of the designer bars in the harbour. (August 2007)

The Lion of Kea (Local Culture)

Kea's most popular sight is probably the Lion of kea, also called Lionidas. This is an imposing archaic sculpture of the lion that according to mythology chaesed away the nymphs of the island, causing many ravages. The story tells this lion was sent by the gods, because they were jealous of Kea's beauty.
