Hotel Despotiko is a town house that has been tastefully converted into a fine hotel. This 18th-century mansion was home to a bishop before being converted into a hotel in 1976 and then fully renovated in 2003.
The bedrooms have been elegantly decorated and equipped to modern hotel standards, without losing the essence of this grand building. You can enjoy breakfast each morning in the main hall before stretching out by the private pool.
Each air-conditioned room comes complete with ensuite bathroom, satellite television and radio, a direct dial telephone, mini bar, hairdryer, safe deposit box and room service.
Online prices are for standard double rooms at Despotiko Hotel. The hotel also has a number of triple rooms, please call 08000 911 601 for prices and availability.
Mykonos Town or Chora (as it is called by locals) is the island's capital. The town has built up around the old harbour to create a beautiful maze of snowy white cubic houses set off by colourful doors and shutters. Views of the town reveal dozens of blue-domed churches and chapels nestling among the narrow stone-paved alleys and squares.
Centred around Mykonos Town, the island has a reputation as Greece's playground and is known for its cosmopolitan nightlife. Many Greek and international celebrities have summer residences here. A stroll through the town reveals designer boutiques mixed with local craft and tourist shops, as well as innumerable pretty lanes and town houses.
Popular sights include the five windmills that overlook the town and the pelicans which are often found on the harbour front. Evening entertainment here is unrushed and runs until late into the night - try the quieter 'Little Venice' area for several good bars.
Charter flights direct to Mykonos are available from Gatwick on Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays and from Manchester on Thursdays and Fridays. There are also flights from Athens, Thessaloniki, Rhodes, Santorini and Crete during the summer season.
