Property details

A beautifully restored farmhouse with private pool set amongst the olive groves, only a short distance from the sleepy hamlet of Manesatika with its famous sunset taverna.

If you are looking for peace and seclusion, this sympathetically converted farmhouse will provide all this and more. Villa Kastanida is accessed along its own lengthy driveway and is hidden away amongst the hundreds of olive trees that encircle it and lead down to the sea.

The villa is situated in the sleepy hamlet of Kastanida which is a short walk from the village of Manesatika and within walking distance of one of the sunset tavernas with its breathtaking views and traditionally cooked meals. The village of Magazia is within a 5 minute drive where you will find a bakery, traditional Kafenia and mini-market although a small shop is within walking distance of the villa.

This original Paxiot farmhouse has been updated to provide up-to-date kitchens and bathrooms, yet exposed stone walls and original features ensure the house retains a traditional ambiance. Standing in extensive gardens, Villa Kastanida features shady terraces that have west facing uninterrupted sea views and stunning sunsets.

The sizeable living area is open-plan to the recently fully-fitted kitchen and has large glass sliding doors to the terrace. There is comfortable seating around the corner fireplace as well as a dining table for six - all below a pretty, vaulted wooden ceiling.

The charming bedrooms retain their traditional style. Villa Kastanida sleeps six in air-conditioned double and twin bedrooms and a further twin bedroom. The double room has a an en-suite with corner bath, while the twin bedrooms share a second bathroom with a hip bath and shower basin.

The infinity-type pool is surrounded by terraces which have splendid sea views and includes sun loungers, umbrellas and a Pagoda. There is also a built-in barbecue making this superb, homely renovation an excellent choice for a family summer holiday.

Location

West Coast, Paxos

The west coast of Paxos offers the island's most beautiful scenery. This area is excellent for walking and offers cliff-top views and stunning sunsets. There are views of Eremitis limestone cliffs or enjoy an evening on the rooftop terrace at Sunset taverna.

The bus service links hamlets such as Kastanida with Loggos, Lakka and Gaios, but on this compact island these harbours can also be reached using the numerous footpaths that crisscross Paxos.

Why Holiday in Paxos?

Paxos is a tiny gem that lies in the Ionian Sea just an hour's hydrofoil trip from its larger neighbour Corfu. With no direct flights, this island of pretty harbours and undiscovered coves is delightfully laid-back and off-the-beaten-track.

Gaios is the island town, main harbour and centre of island life. Harbour-side tavernas greet arriving visitors but are well worth a return visit during your stay. Loggos is a pretty village harbour just a 10 minute taxi ride from Gaios and home to several of our Paxos villas and apartments. Perhaps the best way to explore this island is by small boat - simply potter along the shoreline to find your own idyllic cove.

For more information on Paxos, its harbours and villages click the tabs above. Our 'Getting there' section includes flight routes to neighbouring Corfu and ferry options.

How To Get There

Transfers to Paxos are usually by hydrofoil from the port in Corfu Town with the crossing taking approximately 1 hour. If you book inter-island transfers with us, you will be met at Corfu Airport by our Perfect Blue Representative who will escort you to a taxi to take you to the port for the next available hydrofoil. You will also have the option to book car hire or property transfers for once you arrive on Paxos.

Please note that the best arrival days for connecting to Paxos are on Mondays, when there are more boats and hydrofoils in operation. We recommend selecting flights that arrive on Corfu no later than 13:00 to leave time for your onward transfer to Paxos.

On Mondays, flights to Corfu leave from the following UK airports: Belfast, Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, East Midlands, Exeter, Gatwick, Glasgow, Manchester, Newcastle, Stansted. Direct flights are also available from Dublin and there are daily flights from Athens Airport.

Perfect Blue Holidays offer a full travel service including flights, car hire and taxi transfers as well as apartments, hotels and villas on an accommodation-only basis.

Call our Travel Team to speak with our travel experts who can create a personalised holiday to meet your requirements.

We loved the privacy and nice pool (August 2010)

We were very pleased with our holiday at Villa Kastanida. (May 2010)
Villa Kastanida was a lovely, peaceful, tranquil property. (May 2010)
Villa Kastanida is a house with a soul! We loved the garden - which was very well looked after - and the layout of the accommodation. The swimming pool was delightful, with sunny and shaded areas; the position was nice and secluded; and all the staff were discrete and charming. The owners even gave us a bottle of olive oil from their harvest. (August 2009)
If anything, Villa Kastinida was somewhat undersold! The owner and her love and care for the property made the holiday all the more special. (July 2009)
We loved Villa Kastanida and wish to return. Peaceful and surrounded by olive groves. (July 2009)
Villa Kastanida has character as well as modern facilities. Good, firm beds, 100% cotton sheeting, extremely clean and well maintained by a lovely, kind owner (who even made us a cake!). The fantastic pool was attended to every day and was secluded enough to enjoy a bit of naturist swimming! (May 2009)
We have only one thing to say about Villa Kastanida... it was fantastic! (May 2009)
It was a delight to arrive at Villa Kastanida and get exactly what had been described. Although there were other properties nearby, there was a feeling of peace, tranquility and isolation about the villa. The owner of the property and the people in the village close by were all very helpful. (May 2009)
The villa had a spacious layout and was set in very pleasant surroundings - giving us a very peaceful couple of weeks. (September 2008)
The property has character and Rustic charm. It is in a peaceful location with a swimming pool (August 2008)

We found the West Coast of Paxos perfect. We did not hire a car and enjoyed discovering the rest of the island on foot (we would recommend a good pair of walking shoes!). (May 2009)
The quiet setting was exactly what we wanted. The property is situated in a position where there are many lovely walks to the main towns and the bus stop is not that far away. (September 2008)
Secluded location amongst olive groves (August 2008)

Hints, Tips and Local Information

All the taxi drivers we used on the island were brilliant (July 2010)
The shops in Gaios are better stocked than those nearer the villa, so it's a good idea to do your food shopping there before going to the property. (May 2010)
Avoid the commercial sunset viewing from the taverna roof terrace and take the path to the cliff (5min walk) instead. It's spectacular and secluded - and then you can eat at the taverna afterwards! (August 2009)
Try the Kastanida Sunset Taverna for lunch or dinner. It's open all day and is magic. (July 2009)
Take good anti-mossie items! (May 2009)
Eremitis sunset bar made a very good alternative to the Kastanida Sunset Bar (though requires a car to reach it) (August 2008)
