Property details

A perfect family villa in a private location and its own swimming pool. Only a short walk from tavernas and sandy beaches.

Set back from the road, Villa Sweetwater offers a peaceful retreat surprisingly convenient for local tavernas and sandy beaches. The villa is in private and gated grounds. Nearby, the sandy beaches of Ampoula and Bouka are both very pleasant beaches and are away from the madding crowds. The excellent setting of this villa ensures that guests looking for a wider selection of bars and restaurants are just a 10-15 minute stroll from the more established resort of Tsilivi.

Approaching the villa you find yourself in a tranquil wooded area with cypress, pine and olive trees. Villa Sweetwater takes its name from the old fresh water well that stands in the grounds. A more contemporary water feature is the 7m x 4m swimming pool that is sure to be a hit with the children.

The villa provides up to six people with spacious, air-conditioned accommodation furnished to a high standard. The main living area features a high ceiling with exposed roof timbers and wide patio sliding glass doors that lead out to the pool terrace. A toddler gate is provided for the patio doors. There's plenty of room for you to prepare meals in the well-equipped kitchen, dining can be formal around the six seater table, or al fresco around the pool.

The upstairs bedroom has twin beds and French windows that open onto a raised terrace with views over surrounding olive groves and the sea beyond. The adjacent modern bathroom has a shower, w/c and washbasin. Steps lead down from the living area to the other two other bedrooms, one with twin beds and one with a double bed. They share a second bathroom with bath and shower facilities. All the bedrooms and the main living area are air-conditioned.

Situated within in the village hamlet of Tragaki, there are a handful of excellent local tavernas and restaurants within walking distance. It is only a five minute walk to Ampoula Beach, home to a couple of excellent sea front tavernas. Bouka Beach is a sprawling sandy beach next to a small fishing harbour and is approximately a 10 minute walk from the villa.

Featured in many travel magazaines this popular villa constantly receives superb feedback. One review of Villa Sweetwater included the following extract:

Set in landscaped gardens and centred on a swimming pool, Villa Sweetwater had been built by Dionysis himself and serves as the family's main home outside the tourist season. With three big bedrooms (the master with a wonderful sun terrace) a big, open-plan living area and modern kitchen, it was ideal. The villa was close enough to the nearby resort of Tsilivi for us to take advantage of the shops, but far enough from it that we didn't feel like package holiday robots.

Zante, or Zakynthos, the most southerly of the Ionian Islands, suffers the same pressures as other parts of Greece, struggling to cope with the impact of mass tourism while retaining a sense of its own identity. And while Zante has a couple of raucous, bar-infested resorts, much of the island is unspoiled and life continues in the slow, quirky way that characterises the country.

Location

Tragaki, Tsilivi, Zante

Situated on the South East coast of Zante, the now established resort of Tsilivi is the closest main resort to Villa Sweetwater and ideal for those seeking plenty of activities.

Sweetwater is located in the less well-known village of Bouka. This small hamlet offers several good tavernas including The Vineyard - one of our favourites! There is a small harbour and a pretty beach just 300m from the villa.

Nearby Tsilivi is located 9km from the airport and 5km from the capital of this family focused Greek island. With a Blue Flag 2km sandy beach, Tsilivi is an excellent location for those seeking a classic beach holiday. There are plenty of activities for active kids such as water sports, go-karting, and horse riding.

The resort hits a nice balance between tranquillity and fun, with a main street lined with friendly tavernas, bars and restaurants, plus ample shops. At night, the pace becomes pleasantly lively with pubs and some discos, as well as quieter tavernas.

Why Holiday in Zante?

Hot summers and warm evenings are assured on this southernmost Ionian Island. Visitors will find established resorts with plenty of amenities and activities to keep the children busy.

We specialise in Zante villas and apartments outside resorts and in quieter areas on the island such as Bouka and Vassilikos. Enjoy the calm turquoise waters that lap golden beaches along the South coast or explore the more rugged Northern corners of the island. Shipwreck Bay (Navagio Beach) and the Blue Caves are certainly worth seeing.

Customer Reviews

Feedback on Villa Sweetwater ...

The villa and pool were great. (July 2010)
Villa Sweetwater offered everything we could have wished for for a perfect family holiday and we all had a fantastic time. We have been holidaying in Zante for over 7 years, and this was far and away the best accommodation we have ever stayed in. Every aspect of the holiday was perfect, from the accommodation to the location and its proximity to beaches and tavernas. (September 2009)
Villa Sweetwater was a lovely, open and spacious property - ideal for a relaxing holiday. (August 2009)
Thank you for suggesting Villa Sweetwater to us. It was just perfect. The owners were very helpful but never intruded. (August 2009)
Sweetwater is an incredible villa. To be honest, the photos don't do it justice. We loved our stay and couldn't fault it. The owners were lovely: helpful and laid back. I would definitely recommend it to friends. (May 2009)
What do we think of Villa Sweetwater? When I tell you we have already booked to go back to this villa for the fourth time, I think that says it all. (May 2009)
An excellent villa. Conveniently located with easy access to beaches and a short walk to some great tavernas. (May 2009)
Excellent accommodation - spacious and tidy. (October 2008)
Villa Sweetwater is a fabulous villa. It has everything that you need for your holiday and the pool and patio area were superb. (September 2008)
Quiet and not overlooked at all. The villa owner and his wife were absolutely fantastic and extremely helpful. (September 2008)
The villa had a great layout and the outside space was fantastic. Very clean and in an excellent location. We thought the owners were extremely welcoming and caring. (August 2008)
A spacious, well equipped villa in a fabulously secluded spot. I've stayed in many villas which have been extremely nice, but this is the first property that I would love to actually own for myself! (May 2008)
Really excellent - this is the best villa we have ever stayed in, the owners were very helpful as well. (October 2007)

Tragaki, Tsilivi, Zante ...

Loved the nearby beach. (July 2010)
The villa was close to town, yet also private. (May 2010)
The location was fantastic... (September 2009)
There were sufficient amenities nearby to mean there was no neccessity to go in to the more touristy resort of Tsilivi unless we wanted to. There were some great tavernas in Tragaki. (August 2009)
Tragaki provided us with a choice of two beautiful beaches, a few great tavernas and a supermarket all within easy walking distance. It was quiet and peaceful even though it was high season. (August 2009)
The location in Tragaki was close to a lovely beach but far enough away from all the clubs and pubs - which is exactly what we asked for. (June 2009)
Local people, beautiful tavernas, beach close by. We only needed to hire a car on an ad hoc basis. (May 2009)
The location was peaceful yet we were within 15 minutes, in all directions, of the beach, tavernas and supermarkets. (May 2009)
The setting was private but handy for all the surrounding facilities. (October 2008)
It was far enough away from the main part of Tsilivi for peace and quiet, but a lovely walk into the town for a bit of nightlife if you preferred. (September 2008)
Close to Tsilivi which caters for everyone. (September 2008)
The location was great. Not overlooked at all and within walking distance of the beach and three excellent tavernas. (August 2008)
Away from the hustle and bustle of Tsilivi and the hordes of package holiday makers yet less than a 15 minute walk away from Bouka Beach and several very nice tavernas and only a few minutes away from the local mini-market. (May 2008)

Hints, Tips and Local Information

As adults, the villa is very accessible to beach and restaurants on foot. When you factor in a grandparent and children it becomes trickier. Without a car we felt a bit stuck in - get a car! (July 2010)
Watch out for turtles! We almost tripped over one laying eggs on Ampoula beach at 11pm! (August 2009)
Hire a car and make the most of all the superb beaches. Also, read the guest book - it's full of really useful ideas. (August 2008)
We have a 3 year old and we found that taking a lightweight buggy was essential as the local area could be a bit hilly at times. (May 2008)

Available activities

Waterparks in Zante (Family Fun)

No family holiday to Zakynthos would be complete without a trip to a waterpark. We can confirm that these are great fun for all the family, including slides, pools, rafting or just lazing by the waterside.

Sea Turtle Spotting by Glass Bottom Boat (Natural Beauty)

Zante is known as the most important nesting ground for the endangered species of loggerhead sea-turtles, the Caretta-Caretta, and a national marine park had been created to protect and preserve these creatures. During the summer months, holidaymakers can visit Kalamaki or Laganags and take a glass-bottomed boat trip to view the turtles in their natural habitat and even swim with them.
