Barbati beach is a white stretch of shingle against an azure sea, some twenty kilometres north of Corfu Town. Waterskiers ride the waves, swimmers dodge the little caiques and motor boats potter past. Just north of Barbati is the little hamlet of Glyfa, with its two tavernas, and just beyond Glyfa, on its own acreage of land, right at the lip of the water, screened from the view of everyone except the passing boats, is one of the oldest and most venerable villas on the island, the Barbati Olive Press, and its recent sister, Alexia.
