This island capital has a unique mix of architectural influences and is packed full of history as well as an excellent variety of restaurants, shops and attractions. Ambling through the maze of narrow streets Sicilian, Venetian, French and English influences are revealed at every turn.
The Old Town (Palaiopoli) is situated between the Esplanade Square and the new fortress. This large square (also called Spianada) became a public space during the French occupation. On the west side of the square The Liston is a stunning French designed building inspired by the famous Rue de Rivoli in Paris and is home to some of the smartest cafs and bars anywhere in Corfu.
There is plenty to discover including the Old and New Venetian Fortresses, the Town Hall Square, the Square of the Saints, the Ionian Academy and the Palace of Saint Michael and Saint Georges.
