Beautiful Kalami Bay is renowned as the place where Lawrence Durrell wrote 'Prospero's Cell' in the 1930's. The book brought Corfu to the attention of the English and so began their love affair with the island and their friendship with its people.
Yet, despite its fame, this delightful village retains a traditional and peaceful atmosphere and is geared very much towards anyone hoping for a quieter, family holiday.
Having said this, Kalami does have a small number of bars and several excellent tavernas - of which we can particularly recommend both Pepes and Dimitris - so you will never be short of good places to eat and drink. There are also a few craft shops and mini-markets so, without being overdeveloped, Kalami can provide you with everything you need during your stay.
The beach is mainly shingle and slopes into sparkling waters, ideal for swimming and snorkelling. You can also hire pedaloes, canoes and boats with which to explore the 'secret' coves and beaches that are to be found all along the coast.
A favourite with the Durrell family over half a decade ago, we believe the traditional charm and character of Kalami will continue to captivate families to this very day.
