Twenty kilometers east of Rethymnon is the authentic Cretan fishing village of Panormo with a choice of sandy beaches and a picturesque harbour. It is surprising that Panormo is not better known as it has everything one needs for the perfect seaside holiday. Old restored houses with overhanging balconies cascading with flowers line the narrow lanes leading down to the sea, where you will find a ruined castle and a traditional church overlooking the harbour. The harbour is very attractive, lined with colourful wooden fishing boats with several good tavernas and cafes along the quay side, there is also a good selection of shops in the village.
