Mykonos Town

Typical view of Mykonos Town Mykonos Town or Chora (as it is called by locals) is the island capital. The town has grown up around the old harbour to create a beautiful maze of snowy white cubic houses set off by colourful doors and shutters. Views of the town reveal dozens of blue-domed churches and chapels nestled among the narrow stone-paved alleys and squares.

Centred around Mykonos Town, the island has a reputation as Greece's playground and is known for its cosmopolitan nightlife. Many Greek and international celebrities have summer residences here. A stroll through the town reveals designer boutiques mixed with local craft and tourist shops as well as innumerable pretty lanes and town houses.

Popular sights include the five windmills that overlook the town and the pelicans which are often found on the harbour front. Evening entertainment here is unrushed and runs until late into the night - try the quieter 'Little Venice' area for several good bars.
