Hydrofoils from Corfu pass two small islands on their approach to Gaios. The first is Panayia (or Virgin Mary), the second with its old Venetian castle is St Nicholas Island that forms a natural breakwater that protects the harbour at Gaios. As well as the working fishing harbour, the town offers numerous tavernas grouped round the main square and the church of St Apostoli. Take one of several small lanes that lead off the square and browse local shops, cafe bars, more tavernas and gift shops.
Anti Paxos offers some of the best beaches on these islands and is reached by fast boat from Gaios harbour - a day trip we'd highly recommend!
