Oia

Typical view of Oia The picturesque village of Oia, pronounced 'Ia', is located at the top of a steep cliff in north-western Santorini. Oia is famous for its many blue-domed churches and remains a traditional Greek island village of charming houses in narrow streets and sun-bathed verandas. There is a good variety of tourist shops, tavernas, cafés, and other shops.

The dramatic cliff-top setting ensures spectacular views over the volcano of Palia and Nea Kameni and the island of Thirassia. Oia also has a small port, Ammoudi, which can be reached by decending 300 steps from Oia Village. Here fishing boats return each morning with the daily catch for the tavernas and shops of Oia, while small boats take visitors across to the island of Thirassia.
